Year 4. 5.10.23

Hello from Year 4!

This week the children have continued to work hard. They are writing their own non-chronological reports about ancient Greece, and will be presenting what they've researched to each other. They have made lots of discoveries about how different life was over 3,000 years ago!

In ELC, both classes were considering how fair democracy was in Athens over 2,000 years ago. They took part in a role play, with some children being citizens that weren't allowed to vote, i.e. women, children, slaves, people born outside of Athens. The few that were the men loved their opportunity to vote. Many said this was unfair and they felt unrepresented, empathising with ancient Greek citizens. In Art, the children had fun designing their own patterns based on the geometric designs from ancient Greece.

In Maths, the children have been learning about negative numbers, and thinking about real life scenarios this could be useful, such as reading temperatures, being in a lift etc. They have now progressed to addition and subtraction using the column method.

Both Moore and Saunders classes have enjoyed their violin/cello lessons. During their lessons they are learning about crochets and minims, starting to learn the basics of reading music. Please remember that the instruments need to be brought in EVERY Tuesday for their instrument lessons.
